Strood Academy.

Lessons in a thriving future.

An outstanding learning environment can transform both futures and communities. The new state-of-the-art academy development in Strood, Kent, has done just this. The 12,000 metre-squared scheme has general and specialist teaching spaces, a library, administration spaces, dining area, and fun outside play areas, as well as fantastic sports facilities.

Showcasing sustainability.

The project involved taking a visual, effective, and challenging approach to renewable energy. The solution proposed was really bought into by staff and students alike: located at the front of the school is a medium-scale 50KW wind turbine. It not only provides 20% of the academy’s energy, but also makes a strong visual statement about the green credentials and philosophy of the new school.

Easing the process.

The staff at the school already had difficult and time-consuming day jobs, so committing time and personal energy to the design process was a struggle for many. To combat this, we held regular focused workshops along with simple presentations that allowed us to reach the critical decisions.

Since opening, the academy has transformed the educational opportunities and outcomes for children of all abilities in Strood.
