Championing better standards for security.
St. Helier, UK
The States of Jersey Police new headquarters in St. Helier, Jersey, incorporates state-of-the-art technology to support advancements in policing. The new building includes a basement carpark and plant area, ground-floor custody unit, general enquiries reception, changing facilities, gym, refreshment areas, offices, CSI department with laboratories, two server rooms, central control room, and meeting rooms.
A key challenge came from the site constraints, as the building had boundaries on all four sides and noise breakout was an issue. We overcame this by locating the plant within an enclosed space, completely away from anywhere where it would have caused an issue. All the services we designed allow for continuous operation where suitable. However, despite this requirement, the energy-efficient solutions we specified meant the building still achieved BREEAM Very Good.
It was imperative we communicated effectively and collaborated with the client and design team throughout the process to ensure requirements and deadlines were met. By designing the spaces to be flexible, we allowed for adaptability in the face of any changes to modern policing process and allowed the client the option to change areas if needed. During the on-site stage of the project, we continued to work closely with the contractor to ensure no compromise was made to the quality of the initial design. This helped to guarantee that the high-specification headquarters was completed not only to budget but, impressively, ahead of deadline.
