Maximised space and safety.

Our work on HMP Birmingham was part of the major redevelopment and extension of this existing Category B prison facility.

The project included two new four-storey prisoner accommodation units, a healthcare unit, a sports hall facility, and a regimes building. Added to this was the substantial refurbishment and remodelling of the existing accommodation with a new energy centre and upgraded security systems and control room.

High profile.

The key challenges of this project centred around maintaining a secure, operational prison while the redevelopment works were carried out.

The extension aspect of the work was focused on resolving the prison’s overcrowding issues, so delivery on time and to budget was more vital than ever as it had become a somewhat politically high-profile project.

Trusted knowledge.

Our solutions came directly from our understanding of the needs of the wider client team – whether this be the technical design, programme, or budget requirements of HMPS, or the security and operational needs of the local prison governor.

Our knowledge and experience associated with the custodial sector – along with our understanding of the various procurement methods required to deliver the project – meant we provided a major contribution to its highly successful delivery.
