Having gained a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Manchester University, I worked on industrial and heavy engineering projects in the UK, Asia and Australia. This gave me a taste for being involved in large projects as they move from the design stage to construction – I particularly enjoy the collaboration necessary to achieve this shared goal.
Engineering human experiences.
A favourite project of mine was the refurbishment of 125 Old Broad in London. The development took the old stock exchange building – a dated and tired concrete tower – and gave it new life in its modern glass-clad form. The building is ubiquitous in media images, as its front and centre position in the City of London’s iconic tower cluster.
A defining moment.
A key point in my career was moving from engineering in the steel & oil industry overseas to the built environment in the UK, working at Hoare Lea – a move from engineering for machines to engineering for people. I’ve since been fortunate to lead many stunning projects – focusing on the commercial office and residential sectors. I am passionate about good architecture and buildings and how these affect the people who use them – building services allows me to bring these interests into my engineering career.
