Whatley Manor.
Malmesbury, UK
The rewards of rigorous attention to detail.
The client’s vision for the luxurious new Whatley Manor was to create a hotel that becomes a destination in its own right – where the quality of accommodation, facilities, and service add up to an immersive experience.
Experience is everything.
The scheme involved the major redevelopment of an existing 19th century Grade II listed manor hotel. The brief was for a complete renovation of the original hotel building, plus construction of a new manor house conference centre, underground spa, courtyard buildings, restaurants, and kitchens.
The challenge was to provide the luxurious modern hotel facilities expected in a hotel of this level, while keeping all the spaces as relaxing and aesthetically pleasing as possible. Particular to this project was also the importance of appreciating the sensitivities and constraints of working within a listed building.
Designing detail at high speed.
This was a fast-track scheme with a tight deadline and we worked closely with the client, architect, interior designers, and construction teams to deliver the painstaking detail that it demanded.
We designed the engineering services with the aesthetic outcome at the forefront of our minds. Rigorous attention to detail, close collaboration, and feasibility when considering options were key to the success of this unique project.
The end result is a historic yet contemporary hotel – with hidden functionality that makes the luxurious experience of guests possible.
