CEG: South Bank is a large-scale regeneration of a brownfield site, designed to create a new destination in Leeds. Close to the city centre and the rail station, the area will be redeveloped with a new focus on the people who will live and work there.
Haven in the city.
The huge proposal includes 550 new homes, which could potentially increase to more than 800 during the lifetime of the project. Added to this is a new office space, plus a mix of ground-floor cafés, restaurants, bars and other leisure spaces – all housed within inspiring landmark buildings ranging from four to 40 storeys. Finally, these buildings are connected by open spaces, walking routes, and public plazas linked to the waterside.
The client needed to deliver a valid proposal for planning, which consisted of both outlined and detailed design elements. We supported them throughout the process by exploring the site constraints and establishing how the plots should be organised and split.
Banking on wellbeing.
Throughout the project, we drew on our experience of working with the client previously. Combining this strong relationship with our knowledge of the wider community enabled us to consider all options that might be suitable for the site’s utilities infrastructure. Following an early review, we created a design that was truly people focused – designed for occupant health & wellbeing. This was perceived as key to the development’s success, and means South Bank will be a safe, appealing, and family-friendly place to live, work, and visit.
