Sam leads Hoare Lea’s Public Sector Division, overseeing healthcare, education, government, and civic & community projects.
Being an engineer allows him to engage across a broad range of interests, from tackling complex technical challenges to collaborating with clients, design professionals, and building users. This diversity, and the satisfaction of contributing to successful project outcomes, continues to drive his passion for the profession.
Sam is a strong advocate for the positive role engineers play in society. He has led engineering teams on healthcare projects from initial feasibility, through to first patient treatment and beyond, and has seen the positive impact well-designed healthcare buildings can have on people. He worked on the Proton Beam Therapy Centre at The Christie Hospital, Manchester, which is revolutionising cancer treatment, especially for difficult to treat tumours and children. He has also worked on maternity, general hospitals and out-patients.
He thinks engineering has an important role in addressing the global challenges of climate change and intergenerational responsibility. He believes this must be achieved through a holistic approach to sustainability that balances environmental, social, and economic considerations.
He is also deeply engaged in the digital revolution shaping the built environment, seeking opportunities to enhance digital skills and adopt new technologies that bring genuine value to how projects are delivered. With his blend of technical curiosity, social collaboration, and forward-thinking leadership, Sam aims to help shape a more sustainable and innovative future for the public sector-built environment.
