What are we looking for?
These days, engineering is a lot more than pipes and wires; we look at the building as a whole and are involved in every stage, from initial client discussions right through to construction and even the building’s ongoing performance. You’ll have a genuine interest in developing a career within building services, and be armed with ideas, enthusiasm, confidence, and a creative spirit. You’ll be allocated a mentor and a supervisor, who will give you guidance and support throughout your time with us.
We want to ensure our people hold similar values when working with us. Read about our values here.
We were one of the first firms from the building services sector to sign a climate emergency declaration, acknowledging how drastic action is needed to address climate breakdown and biodiversity loss. We then developed five key steps that will allow us to start making tangible changes and set out an immediate course of action. These actions are something all our people can get behind, and we celebrate designers and engineers who incorporate biodiversity and climate considerations in all that they do.

Our people.
Having joined Hoare Lea as a graduate mechanical engineer in 2006, I always had the support, inspiration, and opportunities I needed to progress my career and develop as a professional. Now 12 years later I’m a team leader and associate, leading teams of engineers to deliver projects. I also provide mentoring and leadership to enable today’s graduates to become chartered engineers.

I joined Hoare Lea as a graduate mechanical engineer in 2001 after graduating in Building Design Engineering from Strathclyde University. Following a varied seven years of fantastic projects, developing my engineering and project leadership skills, I transferred to the Sustainability Group. Now, as the partner lead for Sustainability, I look after a group of hugely talented individuals all striving to make a positive impact in the industry and beyond.

Climate - Business Unit lead
I joined Hoare Lea as a graduate in 1999 after graduating with an MEng in Industrial Engineering from the University of Surrey. I was afforded great opportunities to learn, develop, and lead projects and teams in the early stages of my career and obtain my CEng. I am now the Managing Partner of the Bournemouth office which encompasses many responsibilities including overseeing the development of future generations of leaders of the firm.
Steve Delvin
Director
I joined in January 2020 and was greeted by an extremely welcoming and friendly team. Thanks to the generous amount of support I received, I was able to hit the ground running and learnt how to use Revit and IES quickly. I enjoy the variety I get through my position, working on different tasks and projects every week as this helps me continually broaden my skill set and develop as a consultant. Overall, I have had a wonderful first few months and I can’t think of anywhere better than Hoare Lea to have started my career.
