Supporting the UKGBC's acceleration of commercial retrofitting.

08/02/2023

Building a net zero future.

We’re excited to share that we have joined UK Green Building Council (UKGBC)’s latest Task Group to support the acceleration of commercial retrofit programmes in the UK, and our industry’s pathway to net zero.

It will be fantastic to work with experts from across the industry to gain clarity on the most effective retrofit interventions for common office buildings found in the UK. Representing Hoare Lea will be Associate Director, John Pirouet, Senior Associate, Imogen Christodoulou and Associate, Matthew Daniel. As a sponsor of the UKGBC, we continue to support the Advancing net zero programme, which aims to drive construction and property towards a net zero carbon built environment.

With approximately 70% of the UK’s non-residential building stock constructed before the year 2000, if energy and carbon targets are to be achieved, and the UK’s 2050 net zero targets realised, significant energy efficiency and embodied carbon reductions are needed. As a result, much of the sector will have to undergo some form of retrofit by 2050.

Securing a net zero built environment cannot be achieved without addressing the operational emissions of our commercial buildings.

Improving the energy efficiency of our commercial buildings has the potential to deliver significant carbon savings across the built environment, and with demand for sustainable office space surging in the UK, this is an opportunity we can’t afford to waste.
