Generally, I’m responsible for managing the firms risks, which I do with the help of an excellent team that includes specialists in law, risk management, insurance, health and safety, auditing, fleet management and project management processes.
My day to day…
As you could probably guess from the previous answer, my day can be very varied – a classic double-edged sword – I can be dealing with matters involving all of the above. The key part of my role is to provide leadership and direction – we can’t solve every problem so we must put our energies and expertise where they provide the best value for our business and our clients.
My history…
I first dipped my toe into construction law in 2008 and never looked back. I’ve worked in a couple of law firms and for an M&E contractor over the years, but have been at Hoare Lea since 2016. Construction law allowed me to work on contracts and disputes, which is quite rare in the world of law and provides multiple perspectives, leading to a well-rounded understanding of the law, the industry, and the risks embedded in it.
What does being a leader mean…
To me, a good leader is enthusiastic and empathetic. If you can find a way to be both those things, it will be much easier for people to follow your lead and trust you on the journey.
