Progress on our journey to net zero carbon offices.
Reducing our environmental impact.
We advise clients on how to decarbonise their buildings, and the buildings we work in at Hoare Lea are no different. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and targeting net zero carbon emissions where we work. Our strategy to achieve this involves reducing energy demand, decarbonising energy sources, and offsetting the remaining emissions.
In the previous financial year (2021-22) we established what operational emissions from our 12 UK offices we will report using industry guidance, emissions sources and assets as well as activities to be included. We used this to analyse the current energy performance of our offices in order to set a baseline from which to reduce our emissions and from there, we outlined actions to achieve this.
This financial year (2022-23) we were able to analyse our energy use and the progress we have made against our ambition to have net zero carbon emissions.
Our average office energy usage intensity for 2022-3 was 147kWh/m2/year. All offices have a target to reduce their energy usage for the next financial year and we’re continuing to explore opportunities to reduce demand, increase high-quality renewable energy supply and phase out natural gas.
Our total building related emissions for 2022-3 are 300tCO2e. We are offsetting these emissions with a payment to an approved international carbon standard and investment into a community-based carbon reduction project in the UK.
