ESG team helps deliver GPE’s brief for creating sustainable spaces.

Great Portland Estate (GPE) launches new brief: Creating Sustainable Spaces.

We are delighted to announce that GPE’s brief for Creating Sustainable Spaces has been made public.

Our incredible ESG team, with Sam Revie leading on the delivery, worked with GPE to understand their ambitions, approach and key ‘pillars’ of sustainability, engaged with a large number of stakeholders for opinions regarding the contents of the brief and provided the technical content on how the brief should be applied and the performance requirements.

The brief now applies to all GPE spaces whether ready to fit, fitted or fully managed and has been designed to put customers at the heart of how their sustainable spaces are designed, delivered and operated.

This comprehensive document translates GPE’s sustainability commitments into practical guidance for achieving sustainable outcomes throughout the entire lifecycle of their spaces, from design and development to fit-out and operations. By implementing this brief, Great Portland Estate is not only creating thriving places and spaces, but also setting a new standard for others to aspire to.

The brief reaffirms the four pillars of GPE’s approach, with the following revisions:

  • “A new approach to climate resilience ensuring that, with our stakeholders, we are focusing on adapting our whole business to the physical impacts of climate change, whilst reducing our carbon emissions and responding to evolving legislation.”
  • “The integration of measures to improve biodiversity across all four pillars of our strategy, in recognition of the importance of restoring nature as well as the contribution nature can make to climate change mitigation and adaption for our customers and local communities.”
  • “Strengthened commitments on the implementation of NABERS UK across both our developments and our existing buildings.”
