Building Services Engineers conference.

10/03/2022

Discussing and debating the climate crisis.

In January we hosted the latest UK signatory conference on behalf of the Building Services Engineers Declare group.

As a proud sponsor, support and signatory, we were pleased to see our industry come together and discuss some of the most pressing topics of our time.

Together while apart.

The virtual event bought together individuals from many UK engineering consultancies.

We shared ideas and participated in interactive workshops discussing the global climate crisis we face, and the net zero carbon challenge.

The conference also analysed a recent survey of signatories of the climate and biodiversity emergency declaration. This showed an overwhelming support for greater regulation towards carbon emissions arising from the construction and operation of buildings.

  • 95% of the 200 companies that responded agreed that whole life carbon calculations should be mandatory for buildings at the planning stage.
  • 80% of companies agreed there should be mandatory urban greening factors in planning applications, with an obligation to commit to minimum biodiversity requirements.

If you were unable to attend or would like to re-watch, the conference can be found below, with slides accessible here.
