Permission granted for world-famous Cavendish Lab’s new home.

Our latest development for the University of Cambridge gets off the ground.
Last week, Cambridge City Council’s planning committee approved plans for a brand new high-specification facility at the University of Cambridge.
Set to be the physics department’s new home, the Cavendish Laboratory is known across the globe, having housed 29 Nobel Prize winners to date. The new £300 million development will be known as Cavendish III, to acknowledge the two other homes that the department has had previously.
Cavendish III will give the University of Cambridge a future-proofed facility worthy of its world-leading position.
In addition to the cutting-edge laboratories, the development includes lecture theatres and public spaces. It was a complex yet rewarding project for our Science & Research team, who worked extensively to craft a design solution that would be granted planning permission and met the ambitious brief.
Matthew Chambers, lead partner on the project, says: “Cavendish III has been a really exciting technical challenge that our team has really risen to. The user brief was incredibly complex, as was the holistic design response, but by working together, the result is a robust design. It’s great that the project has now got planning and can move into the next phase.”
