Our people

Mike Tso

Director

After gaining invaluable experience as a design engineer and senior estimator within the construction industry, I joined Hoare Lea in 1990 as an Electrical Engineer and was promoted to Partner in 2008. In addition to client liaison work, I contributed to the technical development of the firm’s IPD and CPD training schemes as the Birmingham representative. In the last four years, my focus has been on the international directorship of one of the firm’s technical resource support facilities, based in Pune, India.

Engineering human experiences.

Our work on major hospital regeneration projects of course impacts people significantly, but it also reduces the detrimental effect of ‘human impact’ on the environment. We have designed solutions that strive towards sustainable innovation, whether it be the application of energy-efficient systems, on-site generation and water conservation.

A defining moment.

A key moment in my career was being witness to the completion of a major 800-bed acute hospital. We played a big part in achieving a functioning modern and exemplar healthcare facility. I was the firm’s lead Electrical Engineer throughout the four-year project, from the initial win of the PFI consortium team we represented, right through to the successful functional handover to the client. It made a real difference to the local community it served.
