Our people

Gary Tucker

I was always good at maths and sciences and so engineering seemed to be a logical choice of career. A key influence on my career was Stephen Edwards, who was a lecturer on my Bath University course, as well as being the Senior Partner of Hoare Lea. I completed a placement at the firm in 1980 and joined permanently when I graduated in 1981. As a result, I’ve never actually had a job interview! Hopefully, I can see the rest of my career out without one now.

I was elected Managing Partner of the firm in 2006 and have recently stepped down as a partner to take a part time role as Chairman, working alongside a new leadership team. Every day there’s a new challenge and I’m still excited by where the firm can go.

Engineering human experiences.

When I was based in Birmingham, being able to walk around the city, point at buildings and say “we did that” was always a great feeling. There were so many projects I was involved with and I am proud to have helped change the landscape of the area.

A defining moment.

For me, my defining moment was when I was asked to take over as Managing Partner in Birmingham. I have now been at Hoare Lea for 40 years now and have never once considered leaving. Hoare Lea is a great place to work, full of great people to work with and great things to do.
