As the Partner responsible for managing our Plymouth office, as well as sector head for Defence – I still enjoy taking an active lead on projects: from early concept design to solving complex challenges. My favourite schemes have involved the implementation of specialist design – where new technology allows for beautiful, innovative, and environmentally conscious buildings and solutions.
Engineering human experiences.
The National Marine Aquarium really lived up to the challenge of a project operating outside the parameters of normal building design, and we were with the client every step of the way. The building has won multiple accolades during its lifetime. I get a great sense of pleasure seeing the many visitors who come to enjoy the aquatic life and the wonders of the ocean on display – unaware of the complex systems operating behind the scenes to make it all happen.
A defining moment.
I’ve always had a personal drive to rise to a challenge and take on projects that are different – especially those that stretch the boundaries of normal building services engineering. My memorable projects span zoos and animal welfare facilities, theme parks and public exhibits, sports stadia, complex industrial plant facilities, high-rise residential and commercial buildings located in extreme desert climates, central banks and large low-energy retail stores for blue-chip clients… to name but a few!
